Hidden in the hills surrounding Machynlleth...

The Bron Yr Aur Project

Bron Yr Aur ... It's simply a small cottage hidden in the mountains of Snowdonia, Wales.  There are several translations from Welsh to English but it basically means “breast of the gold.” That descriptive name reflects the view from the cottage on clear days. The quiet, golden light bounces off the surrounding hills and is surely a sight to see.

Bron Yr Aur is nestled in the hills, continuing it’s life as it has for some 300 years.  Pen Piner, a forgotten cottage ruin, is hidden in the dark forest behind Bron Yr Aur.  Bron Yr Aur and Pen Piner met different fates.

Bron Yr Aur become legendary to the modern world ...

In 1970, upon returning to England from a tiring U.S. Tour,  Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, who were members of the British rock band Led Zeppelin, decided to retreat to Bron Yr Aur.  Robert had  previously visited the cottage on holiday with his family.  He suggested that he and Jimmy go to Bron Yr Aur because of it’s remote location. During their month long stay, the musicians wrote songs that would later be recorded to leave an indelible mark in music history.
Bron Yr Aur was mentioned in a footnote on their album Led Zeppelin III in addition to a song titled Bron-Y-Aur Stomp.  A song titled Bron-Yr-Aur appears on their album Physical Graffiti as well.

Bron Yr Aur is privately owned and has been in the same family since shortly after Page & Plants' visit in 1970.  In 2013, Jim contacted the owners of Bron Yr Aur seeking permission use photographs for paintings.  This request led to the creation of The Bron Yr Aur Project.

The Bron Yr Aur Project, an exhibition of artistic works, was held in Machynlleth, Wales in 2015. The exhibition was an effort to bring the well known,  yet very private Bron Yr Aur down from those hills for the world to see.

The Bron Yr Aur Project included work from Scott and Ruth Roe, White Dove, Simon O’Rourke, Ben Kennedy, and Jim Stallings.
Jim’s paintings for “The Bron yr Aur Project” were solo exhibited at MOMA Wales (now MOMA Machynlleth) April-May, 2015 and The Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville , Georgia  April-June, 2017.  Jim was the first artist commissioned to paint Bron Yr Aur.

Jim continues to be the lead artist for Bron Yr Aur .  His Bron Yr Aur  paintings are available  at Grits Café in Forsyth, GA and his home Studio.  Contact Jim for more information concerning current availability.
